Buyer
A buyer, sometimes known as a purchasing agent, buys equipment and/or
supplies on behalf of a company. They represent part of the B2B arm of
the retail industry, and should be good negotiators and researchers as
they deal with suppliers to seek out the very best opportunities for
their company. Given the nature of their work, and in order to do their
job effectively, buyers will often have to be up-to-speed with what is
happening in other parts of the company such as logistics and
management.
Store Manager
A store manager is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of
their branch run smoothly; indeed, being a store manager means playing
an active role in every area of the branch’s activities. Not only will
they have to perform technical tasks such as drawing up business
strategies and organising work rotas, but they are also responsible for
staff motivation and training. The job also entails several creative
elements such as developing new promotion and advertising concepts.
Customer Service Representative (CSR)
CSRs work on the front line, being the first people a customer will come
into contact with if they have a question or issue regarding one of the
company’s products or services. Their day-to-day includes answering
phone calls, helping customers face-to-face, and processing payments,
returns or exchanges, along with many other responsibilities. As such,
CSRs tend to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and
the ability to multitask and manage their time efficiently.
Store Assistant
Store assistants are charged with ensuring a customer’s in-store
experience is as pleasant and productive as possible. Customers will
often seek out a store assistant as a first point of contact if they
need to find a specific item or process a transaction quickly, so being
up-to-date on stock and company processes is a must. It’s also a store
assistant’s job to be as knowledgeable as possible on all the products
and services offered at their branch and beyond, so customers aren’t
left with any doubts regarding whether or not a product is for them.
